News from Toshikai Dojo of Ottawa, Ontario.

The Toshikai Dojo is proud to announce the expansion of classes and report on an exemplary seminar held recently.

Starting in January 2007, in addition to our tradition training on Sundays and the cardio-karate class on Tuesdays, we have expanded our evenings for training to now include Wednesday nights from 7 to 9 pm being run by Sensei Shane Hale. This will add a much needed extra night of practice and learning for our dojo. Sensei Hale loves to work on bunkai and practical self-defense situations so expect this to be a regular occurring theme on Wednesday nights.

On January the 13th, Toshikai hosted a seminar on Goju Ryu's Sanchin kata taught by Shihan Mike Swywk. The seminar with 30 plus people from six different dojos in attendance was excellent. Although the movements of Goju Ryu's Sanchin dai ichi is very similar to Isshin Ryu's, the internal tensing of the muscles and breath is done differently that what Isshin Ryu does. Cross training in other styles can be an invaluable tool to our continued commitment of studying the martial arts. Toshikai looks forward to hosting another seminar soon with Shihan Swywk on Seiuchin kata.
