Mady's Karate School (North) in Cookstown sent their Tournament team to Montreal Quebec this weekend, to compete at the Mas Oyama's Golden Cup Karate Tournament.
The Golden cup Tournament is an annual event that just celebrated its 8th anniversary. The Tournament is a Full Contact Knock Down Tournament. This year there were competitors from 11 different country's from around the world.
This year 27 competitors competed from Mady's Karate Schools, 24 from Windsor and 3 from Cookstown. The team returned home with 19 total trophies. Thorton's Shannon Bottrell 10 years old, placed in second place in the 10-12 year old girls full contact division, Sam Bottrell 13 years old, and placed in second place in the 13-15 year old girls full contact division. Cookstown's 15 years old Amanda Makivirta 132 lbs competed in the adult 18 and over division, fought 33 year old 165 lbs competitor from Moncton New Brunswick , and lost by decision. Amanda was unable in fight for 3 rd place position, due to injuries from previous fight, and took forth place by default.
